One of the the exciting parts about working with students at the Univerisity of Florida is the opportunity to work with tremendous students in the Integrated Product and Process Design (IPPD) program. This semester, I coached an IPPD team named SyncAssist sponsored by Freedom Scientific and the parent company Vispero to create a remote desktop solution for the vision impaired.
For two semesters, the students worked on the project, which included a remote desktop solution that allows blind users to access their computers from anywhere.
The tool is designed to be user-friendly, and useable in the desktop browser, native android, and native iOS devices. Students developed test framework to test performance of hundreds of rooms simultaneously in different continents.
The project was a great success, and the students were able to present their work at the end of the semester. The presentation was well-received, and the students were proud of what they had accomplished. The project was a great example of how technology can be used to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities, and it was a great opportunity for the students to gain real-world experience while also making a difference in the lives of blind individuals.
