Help Advance AI in Anatomy Education: Join the GUTSS Project

The University of Florida's PRISEM Lab led by Dr. Jeremy Waisome and UF Data Studio are leading an innovative project to make anatomy education more accessible and humane through artificial intelligence. The Guided Universal Training for Semantic Segmentation (GUTSS) project aims to develop an AI application that can identify animal organs from images, making anatomy education more accessible to schools with limited resources.

What is GUTSS?

GUTSS will allow students to upload images of animal organs - either from online sources or real-life dissections - and use AI to identify different anatomical structures. This breakthrough technology will:

  • Provide an interactive learning experience for schools without dissection resources.
  • Offer a humane alternative for anatomy education.
  • Help track genetic diversity across different species.

How You Can Help

We're seeking participants to contribute images for this important research. Here's how you can participate:

Image Requirements:

  • Take photos in landscape orientation
  • Capture clear overhead images of the specimen
  • Ensure organs are clearly visible (not obscured)
  • Avoid blurry pictures
  • Do not include humans in the images

Video Requirements:

  • Record in landscape orientation
  • Capture an overhead scan of the specimen
  • Move the camera slowly for clear footage

How to Participate

  1. Scan the QR code in the project materials
  2. Upload your images/videos through the Qualtrics survey
    • Submit single images directly
    • Create a zip file for multiple images
